Lacanau is a popular family resort and surfing destination, with sandy beaches, beautiful pine forests, and a large lake, all connected by road and protected cycling paths. The destination offers a large variety of activities and is home to three golf courses (one 18-hole and two 9-hole). Lacanau is located less than 40 miles from Bordeaux, and is under an hour's drive form the Medoc vineyards and the Bay of Arcachon.

A range of activities are available in the resort, including a variety of watersports such as surfing, water-skiing, sailing and diving, kayaking and catamaran excursions, walking and cycling trails in the forests that surround Lacanau, horse riding trails suitable for all abilities, mini-golf and golf, boules, tennis, fishing in the ocean and the lake, as well as local restaurants, a nightclub and a cinema open during the summer season.Practical information
